Dr. Balas received his B.S. in Animal Science from the University of Vermont. He earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine, graduating with highest honors. Post graduation, Dr. Balas successfully completed a small animal medicine and surgery internship at the Veterinary Specialty Center of Seattle in Lynnwood, Washington. Prior to veterinary school Dr. Balas spent two and a half years working for Guiding Eyes for the Blind, a non profit organization which trains service dogs for the visually impaired and children with autism.
His clinical interests include internal medicine, clinical pathology, animal behavior and teaching.
Originally from the suburbs of New York City, Dr. Balas now lives in Seattle with his wife, also a veterinarian. When he’s not working, Dr. Balas enjoys cooking, traveling, hiking, tennis, volleyball, and spending time with his menagerie of animals.
